Reading 25 Reflection

My attitude and thoughts 15 weeks ago were completely the opposite of now. My attitude towards reading has completely changed. One way I can say that I’m improving my abilities to read and understand what I’m reading. Another way is that I learned new methods of how to understand and help me while I’m reading. Being in groups also helped me what was the reading was about. It also made me see others point of view about a particular subject. I was able to interact with others instead being by myself and doing my work to myself.  Fifteen weeks ago I would read and move on. Did I understand what was I reading? No. Now, I read and make sure I understand what I’m reading. I highlight important facts, main ideas, and vocabulary words, annotate, and reread the content. My experience in reading 25 was amazing, fun, interesting, active, and satisfactory. Fifteen week ago I wasn't sure I wanted to stay in the course because I thought it would be all about reading but it turned out the opposite. I have no regrets enrolling in this course. I enjoyed being in this class. Overall, this Reading 25 was worth it.

P.S. Thank You Professor :)

Keep up the good work.

Bystander Effect

The first time I experienced the Bystander Effect was when I was in the sixth grade. I was outside with my cousin playing soccer when all of sudden i just hear two young men arguing and then I hear shots. I stood there with the soccer ball witnessing the young men letting all his anger while pushing the trigger of the gun. This happened during the day where a lot of traffic was around. People were driving, walking, and outside their houses. No one bother to call the police or trying to see if the other young person was injured or needed help. I couldn’t do anything at the time because I was a little kid at the time. I just ran inside the house because my cousin screamed at me, "Get in the house, hurry!" After the shooting happen everybody acted like nothing happened and kept on going with their day. Later the police showed up and were asking questions but it seemed nobody wanted to speak.

My Argument

Imagine one sunny day you and your family are all together in the living room. Then you just hear the door "Boom" couple of guys’ rushes inside saying, "Immigration Police." After immigration police rushed into your house they take your family away. The reason why they take them away it’s because they don't have a piece of tree to prove they are U.S. citizens. Immigrants should be able to obtain papers. If immigrants have papers the rate of deportation would decrease, the rate of violence would also decrease, and the feeling of being scared would also decreased. Immigrants would be able to work legally and have the same benefits as people who have papers. Another reason would be the mistreatment of majorities would come to an end. The mistreatment can consist of threatening, beating, financially, and much more. If immigrants have the ability to obtain papers, they would try to become U.S. citizens, and then have the word to vote. If immigrants obtain papers they would become part of the U.S. community such as doing taxes, voting, contributing to society, and much more. We are all humans not animals! We cannot just sit around in a single spot! Let immigrants have papers so they can live the life they have been dreaming about.

Self-Regulatory Behaviors

The component that I have the most difficult in my academic success would be time management. It challenges me the most because being a full time student and having a full time job gives me less time to study. I go to school on Tuesday and Thursday. I work the other five days of the week. I try my best to do my homework, study, and do other school assignments I need to finish when I come out of work. After work I’m tired and hungry which takes more time away from doing school work. Days when I have spare time I’m in the streets doing errands that require all the spare time I have. Most of the time I’m not home because there is so much things I have to do in a little bit of time. Sometimes my mother asks me to go do some stuff for her and instead of saying no I go do it. Since I’m in a relationship it kind of takes time away from studying to but mostly is my job. Some ways I think I can overcome it is by making a schedule of my spare time. Another way is by giving up some things so I will have more time for school stuff. By doing this I might have defeated my most difficult component time management.

My reading history.

Last book I picked up and glanced through it was my English 101 book. I didn't took the time or effort to read it because I got bored. The professor would ask us to read stories from the book, but I would ignore what I was supposed to do. I am more of a visual learner. if I read without taking breaks I eventually get tired and forget about reading. However, I try reading but at a certain point I decide to do something else. I wasn't raised with books around me. Throughout my life video games were my entertainment, spare time, enjoyment, etc. The only thing I would read would be the task I had to complete in order to pass a mission. Although, my life was not surrounded by books I would like to obtain better reading abilities.
